Cosmetic Bonding Can Repair Damaged Teeth in your Smile

Posted .

Chips, cracks and fractures in one or more teeth can be a serious cause for concern. If you are fortunate enough that the damage is limited to the enamel without exposing the dentin, your dentist might recommend a cosmetic bonding procedure.

A cosmetic bonding procedure uses durable resin that is color matched to the natural enamel to fill the damaged area. This seals and protects the damaged area from the bacteria in your mouth, while restoring the appearance of the damaged tooth.

Before approving the bonding procedure, the dentist will inspect the tooth and take some x-rays. This helps to make sure the remaining enamel is strong and there is no damage to the pulp or root of the tooth. Once it has been determined that the tooth is healthy and strong, the dentist will color match the resin to the natural enamel.

The resin is then hardened with an ultraviolet light. Your dentist will then polish the tooth seamlessly blend in with your natural enamel.
