What are dental implants?

Dental implants offer the closest to natural replacement of missing teeth – they’re often the best possible option, functionally and aesthetically. A dental implant is a small, screw-like post that is surgically implanted into the jawbone in place of the missing tooth root. At our office, we use Nobel™ and CAMLOG® implant systems. During a period of healing, which usually lasts 3-6 months, the bone and the implant fuse together for a strong, stable restoration. We then place an attachment called an abutment on top of the implant post, and then the implant restoration is attached to the abutment. Depending on your dental needs and which teeth are missing, the restoration may be a partial denture, a complete denture, a dental bridge, or a dental crown.
